If you're a sew-ist, you might be asking yourself why you need a rotary cutter and self-healing mat. You have a pair of scissors, right? They've done just fine all this time. True, scissors are great. But a rotary cutter is even better.
Here at the Atlanta Institute of Stitches & Crafts, we want to make sure that you have all of the tools necessary to become an A+ crafter. We won't recommend anything that we ourselves don't use. And for all of us, an Olfa Rotary Cutter and Self-Healing Mat (with a see-through gridded ruler), is something we can't live without.

While scissors get the job done, a rotary cutter allows for skillful and precise cutting. Because fabric lays flat on a mat, it doesn't shift or move as much as when you use a pair of scissors. You can measure your cut right then and there with your ruler and mat, then mark your fabric before you cut it. Better still, we're certain a rotary cutter is going to save you time. Our highly unofficial survey found that using a rotary cutter can cut the time you spend prepping a project in half (pun not intended). When using a rotary cutter, the self-healing mat saves your table from scars, but doesn't scar itself, making it useable for years to come. And a good gridded ruler allows you to make long straight cuts along a length of fabric, using its markings and those on the mat as a guide.
And if that weren't great enough, when a rotary blade becomes too dull to cut fabric, you can use the dull blade to cut paper. Genius!
